Terra Incognito: Infusing Information Literacy into the Disciplines
By Jim Nichols and Karen Shockey
Abstract
At SUNY Oswego the Faculty Assembly has mandated the infusion of information literacy learning outcomes through all four years of all programs, and asked for leadership from the library faculty to implement the infusion. We will report on the creation of a matrix of learning outcomes; collaboration with other departments; assessment of student performance; and efforts to improve learning. Using a communities of practice model, we have been able to lay out the development of skills and the natural integration of critical thinking, writing and other activities of scholarship.
A chronology of Information Literacy Events at SUNY Oswego was distributed along with an assessment matrix and a printout of the slides.
The slides with notes, and all the handouts are available at http://www.oswego.edu/~jnichol1/workshop/ . Email Jim at jnichol1@oswego.edu and Karen at shockey@oswego.edu.
