Blogging Your Way to Information Literacy

by Greg Bobish (Albany)

SUNYLA Blog Presentation (PowerPoint)

Abstract:

In every class discussion there are students who have great ideas, but who don't feel comfortable expressing them in class. How can you draw these students in? A class blog can be a forum to encourage discussion and exchange outside of regular class sessions, as well as an easily updated web presence for general class information.I've been surprised and excited to see what my students have posted, and I plan to continue using this excellent tool to enable open communication with my students - find out how I (and they) did it, and bring your own ideas and questions to share!

You have landed here for one of several reasons. Perhaps you have signed up to take UNL205 or UNL206 (Information Literacy) or are thinking about taking it but have little or no idea of what the class is, what material is covered, or what is expected of you. Well, have no fear! You will find here a course description, a directory of the many excellent instructors who teach UNL205/206, a page of tips and tutorials that support the course, and a great blog to share ideas and comments about information literacy in our local, national, and world news.
