The Data and Information Behind 'Truth': A Librarian's Perspective on Al Gore's Documentary

Presenter: Frederick W. Stoss (University at Buffalo)

Abstract:

In January 2007, Fred Stoss was trained by Al Gore and The Climate Project to present Al Gore's slide show that serves as the basis for his Oscar-winning documentary film, "An Inconvenient Truth." Using Gore's slides, data tables and graphs, this presentation will describe the role of environmental data and information in a decision-making model and discuss how individuals looking at the same data can draw very different conclusions on its meaning. The presentation will also feature several lists of essential data and information resources enhancing library collections and reference services on global warming and climate change.
