B. Navigating your OPAC with Astrolabe and MARC

Abstract:

The MARC record is the key to how your OPAC displays and retrieves cataloging records. There is no reason to cower before the tags. This session is meant to introduce the MARC record to public service librarians and all those who are not familiar with the tagging and how it is interpreted. Even jaded catalogers might be interested to know that the coding really does have an effect on how the catalog operates. The session will cover the basic MARC monographic fields and will illustrate the good, the bad, and the ugly from our own catalogs. There will be audience participation.
