When is a "knot" not a knot? Why can't "draggon" bowlines fly? When two half hitches are combined, why don't they make a whole hitch? How can you make a monkey's fist without a monkey? If you cut off a Turks head, is it a crime? Do you know what the longest and shortest lines on a ship are?

Jim McKoy joins us from the Maritime Transporta-tion department to untangle the basics of marline-spike seamanship and showed how knowing the ropes can make life easier.
